WHY DID YOU CHOOSE BELMONT? 

I went to Alabama my freshman year for track and got hurt so I was looking for a new home where I could run track. I knew a couple people at Belmont beforehand and a couple of my buddies told me to come visit and check out the school. I didn’t know much about the track and field team and met with the coaches when I came up to visit and loved it. I really enjoyed the family aspect of the school and athletic department. I looked at it as an opportunity to help and be one of the building blocks to grow our athletic department. I wanted to aid in putting Belmont track and field in the national spotlight. Last year, I was one of the first male sprinters to make it to regionals, so that was really special. Belmont was never the plan, I almost viewed it as an interruption at the time, but it turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. The mentality at a bigger school was often sports first, then academics. Belmont provides a mentality that balances both sports and academics. Here of course we strive to win championships, but it’s also valued to excel in the classroom and be champion in there as well. By attending Belmont, I began to realize that you have time to progress and develop as an athlete which has really helped me grow and become a more successful athlete. The confidence and patience from our coaching staff helps the athletes perform their best.

WHAT DO YOU WANT YOUR LEGACY AT BELMONT TO BE? 

I’ve had the privilege of breaking quite a few records during my time at Belmont, which is great, but I really want to help my team become one of the top teams in the league. Every time I’m at a basketball game I look up in the rafters and see that the men’s track and field team doesn’t have a banner, so that’s the legacy I want to leave with the team. To be able to help hang a banner in the Curb Event Center is what I’m striving to do during my time here. Individual championships are fun and exciting, but to be part of the first team to raise a banner would be special. On a personal level, I’d love to get to nationals as well.

WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS AFTER GRADUATION?

I’m a Business Administration major and love it. When I started out, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with it, but currently I want to go into sport agency. I realized that once I got to Belmont. I’ve grown to love the business side of sports. I interned with the Nashville Predators this summer and enjoyed that.

CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT SOMEONE WHO HAS BEEN INFLUENTIAL TO YOU DURING YOUR TIME AT BELMONT? 

There are multiple people who have impacted my time at Belmont, but Coach Cam Harvey has played a huge role in my progression as an athlete. He’s been so patient and never put any pressure on the potential I have, as well as my teammates. You don’t get that from a lot of coaches in college sports and it’s really important. Having that relationship with Coach Cam has helped me here and helped me be stress free. It would’ve been easy for the coaching staff to turn their back on me since I came to Belmont with an injury, but everyone welcomed me with arms wide open.

WHAT MAKES BELMONT’S ATHLETICS DEPARTMENT SO SPECIAL? 

When you walk into our athletic department it’s like walking into your house; it’s just a big family. The administrators come in and talk to me about my weekend or how school is going; they care about you as people not just as athletes. They also care about your development after your athletic career which you don’t get everywhere. Everyone in the department fits Belmont’s culture and that’s evident everywhere you go. Creating a family environment really helps the athletes feel at home here.
